This was the second time in a row I gave up on a 48-hour compo\u2026 This time I couldn\u2019t think of a game for the theme, last time I just wasn\u2019t having fun making the game I thought up\u2026<\/p>\n

I\u2019m wondering if the joy of doing 48-Hour compos has faded for me\u2026<\/p>\n

Before, the 48-Hour compo was a learning experience (mostly time management), then it became about finishing a game\u2026<\/p>\n

But now, I think my feeling about them evolved\u2026 Now it\u2019s the thought of creating something actually good\u2026 The last 3 games I\u2019ve done in the compos that were finished (\u201cCursed<\/a>\u201d, \u201cConquest<\/a>\u201d and \u201cAn Old Man And His Quest<\/a>\u201d) came out really nice (for my standards in this sort of thing), and I think that kind of made me raise the bar\u2026 <\/p>\n

So now, each time I don\u2019t have a \u201cgreat idea\u201d (\u201cConquest\u201d) or some \u201cgreat 48-hour tech\u201d (\u201cCursed\u201d and \u201cAn Old Man And His Quest\u201d) to work on, I get demotivated, start thinking about my awesome couch+tv+computer combo, and I loose interest\u2026<\/p>\n

Is this a flaw on my part? Or is it just a sign that I\u2019ve made enough compos to have transcended the need for them, for purposes of self-validation? The compos for me were never about the competition itself, as I said above, it was about learning and finishing something, but nowadays I just don\u2019t have the will for it, unless the idea I have really appeals to me\u2026<\/p>\n

No answer for any of these questions, but I just wanted to share, \u2018cos that\u2019s the kind of person I am! \"Open-mouthed<\/p>\n

Hopefully the next compo I\u2019ll be more motivated and can actually think of something good\u2026 and finish it for good measure! \"Open-mouthed<\/p>\n
