{"id":842,"date":"2013-02-11T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-02-11T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shadowcovenant.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/11\/more-indie-galore\/"},"modified":"2013-02-11T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2013-02-11T19:00:00","slug":"more-indie-galore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/shadowcovenant.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/11\/more-indie-galore\/","title":{"rendered":"More indie galore&hellip;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Keeping on with my trip in the world of indie games I had on my Steam account:<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px\" id=\"scid:5737277B-5D6D-4f48-ABFC-DD9C333F4C5D:8e82f620-da96-4b6d-ab89-4f04eb944389\" class=\"wlWriterEditableSmartContent\">\n<div><object width=\"649\" height=\"365\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/TCDJXj1PW9s?hl=en&amp;hd=1\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/TCDJXj1PW9s?hl=en&amp;hd=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"649\" height=\"365\"><\/embed><\/object><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Looks amazing, plays like a dream\u2026 but (there\u2019s always a but) it\u2019s a \u201ckill-everything-that-moves\u201d platformer\u2026 Not my cup of tea, but if you like this sort of games, it\u2019s a galore of cartoon violence that plays extremely well\u2026 Not sure if this fits the \u201cindie\u201d label, since it\u2019s an EA game, but still it has an indie feel to it.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px\" id=\"scid:5737277B-5D6D-4f48-ABFC-DD9C333F4C5D:1e7008c2-7baf-4f63-a3b0-798db4f2b95d\" class=\"wlWriterEditableSmartContent\">\n<div><object width=\"645\" height=\"362\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/zWrFZMTlR7o?hl=en&amp;hd=1\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/zWrFZMTlR7o?hl=en&amp;hd=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"645\" height=\"362\"><\/embed><\/object><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Breakout with some twists\u2026 It\u2019s a nice game, well executed, pretty to look at, but again, not my cup of tea\u2026 My Arkanoid days are for a long time\u2026<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px\" id=\"scid:5737277B-5D6D-4f48-ABFC-DD9C333F4C5D:0e298b8d-bcc7-4417-9f83-4e5fe4891437\" class=\"wlWriterEditableSmartContent\">\n<div><object width=\"639\" height=\"359\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/xv8873czQi0?hl=en&amp;hd=1\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/xv8873czQi0?hl=en&amp;hd=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"639\" height=\"359\"><\/embed><\/object><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Another platformer (half the games in the world are platformers, it seems), in this one you can take \u201cphotos\u201d of certain parts of the game area and past them to others; this will enable you to overcome fiendish puzzles. Very pretty, it lacks a certain story-line that I really need for games to suck me in (unless the gameplay is as amazing as \u201cClosure\u201d, for example).<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px\" id=\"scid:5737277B-5D6D-4f48-ABFC-DD9C333F4C5D:1e500c6c-5f3b-4821-a61b-70cc1fd2609d\" class=\"wlWriterEditableSmartContent\">\n<div><object width=\"635\" height=\"357\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/j0nFeFYd_HA?hl=en&amp;hd=1\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/j0nFeFYd_HA?hl=en&amp;hd=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"635\" height=\"357\"><\/embed><\/object><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">This game was so close to being what I always wanted in a space game it\u2019s almost annoying that I gave up on it after 3 or 4 hours of play.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Space Pirates and Zombies (SPAZ) is a top-down space shooter, with all the RPG elements you might want! Loads of quests, tech-trees, upgrades, mining, etc, etc, etc\u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">So what\u2019s wrong with it? Well, first of all, the game overwhelms you with information and mechanics very early, which kind of dampens my enthusiasm a bit\u2026 but hey, the game seemed so awesome, I powered through it\u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The worse part was when I found out that I wasn\u2019t actually having fun in the space battles\u2026 the enemy AI is so rudimentary that the combats were just a succession of \u201cfollow this ship until you overtake it, then 180 degrees and do it again\u201d, it had a taste of random (not enough feedback on hits to understand what exactly was happening)\u2026 but worse, it didn\u2019t FEEL fun\u2026 So, space battles became a grind (and that\u2019s the main core of the game), so after a bit I was thinking \u201cWhy am I playing this, I ain\u2019t getting any satisfaction from it!\u201d, which was a shame, because everything else seemed awesome\u2026 Maybe a bit more \u201cdirected\u201d gameplay (through an initial storyline), and a better combat system would have really pulled me in, because I really wanted to like this game(it seemed to be everything I wanted EVE Online to be)\u2026 Looking at it, I think that the combats shouldn\u2019t be so fast action oriented, somewhere between the fast pacing it has and the slow drag of EVE\u2026 Then, maybe the game could have been a really huge tiem sink for me\u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Anyway, try it out, you might find it more fun than I did\u2026 there\u2019s thousands of people of that opinion, so it might be that I was expecting something different, since I\u2019ve been thinking about making a game like this for ages now\u2026<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 0px;
