So, this week \u201cIron Man 3\u201d premieres:<\/p>\n

The previous ones were terribly entertaining movies, so looking forward to this one (although I don\u2019t know about the \u201cdark and gritty\u201d approach they seem to have chosen for it)\u2026<\/p>\n

This reminded me of another two movies I\u2019m excited about:<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not a huge fan of Superman, to be honest\u2026 he\u2019s \u201ctoo good\u201d and \u201ctoo powerful\u201d for my taste\u2026<\/p>\n

Anyway, this one Snyder\/Nolan treatment might be exactly what\u2019s needed to get me on the Superman bandwagon! <\/p>\n

I\u2019m a Star Trek fan (although I\u2019m more of a Stargate\/Star Wars guy), and the last movie by Abrams was very good, so I\u2019m looking forward to this one\u2026<\/p>\n

As I tend to look at everything around me in terms of games, watching the trailer for this one has got me thinking\u2026 In most space games, \u201cshields\u201d are kings\u2026 All ships have shields and when those are down, they\u2019re 10 seconds away from annihilation\u2026 but I really enjoy slug-fests, in which slower, mass-based weapons are used to pummel the hull of a ship, so that when the shields are down, that\u2019s not the end of the world\u2026 <\/p>\n

This prompted a discussion with my friends about the lack of \u201cvisceral\u201d space combat\u2026 combat by nature is something that appeals to our primeval nature, the visceral side of us\u2026 yet, space combat is usually treated as something not-visceral, which is interesting\u2026 but, if I think on it, Battlestar Galactica has some of the best space-fight sequences ever, and it\u2019s pretty visceral, because it\u2019s not all about laser and shields, but about ships getting beaten up and after a lot of punishment they finally explode (it also has something to do with the tribal soundtrack and the shake-cam, I\u2019d say, but it all just adds to my point that fights should be visceral, even space ones)\u2026 I\u2019d like a space game I designed to have that feeling, to be honest, it really makes it feel more \u201creal\u201d, in my opinion\u2026<\/p>\n
