{"id":956,"date":"2013-06-07T19:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-06-07T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shadowcovenant.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/07\/the-walking-dead\/"},"modified":"2013-06-07T19:00:00","modified_gmt":"2013-06-07T18:00:00","slug":"the-walking-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/shadowcovenant.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/07\/the-walking-dead\/","title":{"rendered":"The Walking Dead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/shadowcovenant.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/TWD-game-the-walking-dead-game-31922820-1280-800.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"TWD-game-the-walking-dead-game-31922820-1280-800\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"TWD-game-the-walking-dead-game-31922820-1280-800\" src=\"http:\/\/shadowcovenant.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/TWD-game-the-walking-dead-game-31922820-1280-800_thumb.jpg\" width=\"645\" height=\"410\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Well, it\u2019s time I jump onto the bandwagon of praise for this one!<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">First of all, I don\u2019t like the TV show\u2026 I started watching it, and decided to start calling it \u201cThe Boring Dead\u201d\u2026 Gave up after 3 or 4 episodes\u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Secondly, I\u2019m not a big fan of zombie games\u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">That said, this makes my praise of \u201cThe Walking Dead\u201d extra special!<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">First, let\u2019s get the bad out the way\u2026 I wouldn\u2019t call this a game, more of an interactive story\u2026 the gameplay elements are just too thin, and most of them are just to serve as interval between the cutscenes\/story\u2026 This is as much a game, as cooking is\u2026 <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile\" style=\"border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none; border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none\" alt=\"Smile\" src=\"http:\/\/shadowcovenant.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/wlEmoticon-smile.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">That said, on that regard, the game is bloody amazing\u2026 I picked it up on a Humble Bundle, and it was an amazing deal ($25 for a lot of great games).<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">My first comment to my friends after I finished this was: \u201cWill someone please buy a copy of this for David Cage?!\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">David Cage might be the front-man for this new generation of interactive stories, but after playing this one, I don\u2019t feel he\u2019s even near in talent to the guys at Telltale!<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The base story of TWD is quite the normal story for zombie-based games\u2026 but the way it\u2019s written, the way it builds its characters makes it stand out\u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">While in Heavy Rain, the focus was on making CGI look as real as possible and over-dramatize everything so it would look \u201cdark and gritty and real\u201d, on TWD, the focus is on building characters\u2026 Great characters, with great depth, characters I could really give a crap about!<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The graphics on TWD are cartoony (strange choice for a zombie game, but one that ultimately paid off), yet the characters feel more real than anything Quantic Dreams has ever done!<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">While I couldn\u2019t care less if Ethan Mars lived, died, saved his son, etc, I really felt for Lee (the main character) and Clementine\u2026 the automated choices seemed believable, while the ones we could make were definitely hard to decide on\u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The game immersed me so much in it, that I stopped doing my usual \u201cgame the system\u201d approach (in which I choose something because it would maximize my \u201cscore\u201d), and started doing what I believe I\u2019d do in the situation\u2026 Specially because the decisions I made seemed meaningful to the story (for example, deciding on who lives and who dies).<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">This game was really amazing, and it gave me a new breath of hope for this genre of game\u2026 I was very critical of Heavy Rain when it came out, and while on TWD my main criticism is still present (the lack of \u201cgame\u201d), it is considerably abated by the quality of story, writing and general mood the game exposes.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">This game should belong in every gamer\u2019s shelve (or Steam library)!
