Why is Dr. Who so awesome?

13 Feb

…Well, I don’t have any clear idea on that, but that’s the reason I didn’t work as much as I should on the weekend! Smile

I’ve started watching the new series of Dr. Who (the 2005 version), and I’ve watched 3 seasons so far, and I find it riveting; no idea why I didn’t find this so cool the times I’ve tried watching it in the past!

Anyway, my main idea on this is that the character of the Doctor is at the same time accessible and yet mysterious… We don’t know that much about him, and that keeps us glued to the screen trying to figure out who exactly he is…

Hopefully, this will be one of the drivers for Grey. Although he isn’t as accessible as the Doctor, he is very mysterious, with a past veiled even from him… I hope people will find that interesting enough to keep on playing!

Sherlock

10 Jan

Last week, the beginning of BBC’s “Sherlock” second series aired.

It is an awesome show, taking the normal “Sherlock Holmes” formula and taking it to the 21st century. It’s also some of the best writing in TV that I’ve seen for a long time.

It’s written by Steven Moffat, the guy behind a lot of Dr. Who shows and Steven Spielberg’s “The Adventures of Tintin”, and he did a brilliant job in reimagining Sherlock Holmes.

It’s a completely different TV show, since every episode is about 1h30 (instead of the more normal 20 or 40 min format), and it requires people actually paying attention, since it’s paced so fast that you get lost in the complicated plot easily. It also features the normal BBC quality in terms of cinematography, which is quite refreshing.

So, it’s definitely worth a look!

On other news, there’s a new blog post up at Spellcaster Studios, about path-finding and my experience with Recast.

Game of Thrones and Falling Skies

27 Jun

As you noticed, I was away for some time, went to Denmark because of work… But, when I came back, I really made up for the lost time watching some TV; done some other stuff, but I’ll save that for future posts…

Game of Thrones Possible Logo

Finished watching the first season of Game of Thrones… Now this is a good series… Heart-wrenching, loads of suspense, a political story that didn’t become boring at any time, brilliant direction and photography… Really great, and something I recommend to everybody… I’ve read the first book 15 years ago or so, and I wasn’t as captivated by it as by the series… Probably will pick them up, after this ends (hopefully in 20 seasons!); can’t wait until next year for season 2! 10/10

The new series produced by Spielberg, I wasn’t expecting much (especially after “War of the Worlds”)… While most of the flaws of “War of the Worlds” are still present (the overbearing concern about “character development”, the 90’s like homage, the passable special effects), it wasn’t as bad as I expected… I actually like the pos-invasion scenario depicted, it’ feels “real”, which is interesting… now let’s see how this develops… For now, I’m curious enough to keep watching… 7/10
